These figures, collected by the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD) through reports and fieldwork across all provinces, underscore the severity of the situation since the first wave of protests initiated by presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane on October 21.

The right to peaceful assembly, enshrined in national and international legal frameworks, has been met with a disproportionate and violent crack- down. The police, tasked with upholding public safety, have instead turned their resources against the people, using live ammunition and tear gas in- discriminately. Reports indicate not only the repression of demonstrators but also invasions of private homes where tear gas and bullets are unleashed.
