The Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations (AFCON) starts on Friday in the city of Vilankulo, in the presence of President Filipe Nyusi, who is already in Inhambane province.
All seven teams participating in the competition are already on Vilankulo beach. They are Mozambique, Senegal, Morocco, Uganda, Egypt, Madagascar and Malawi.
Everything is ready for the kick-off on Friday, with Mozambique and Malawi fighting in Group A. Morocco is the other team in Mozambique’s group, which was reduced to three teams by the withdrawal (for financial reasons) of Nigeria.
Group B consists of Senegal, Uganda, Egypt and Madagascar.
In the last edition – the 11th – Senegal won the title after beating Mozambique 4-1 in the final.
The 2022 Beach Soccer AFCON is the first to be held in Mozambique, and runs until 28th October.
