The Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM) has approved its candidates for the municipal elections of 11 October. Silvério Ronguane, a parliamentarian and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the São Tomás University, moves from Matola, where he stood in 2018, to become head of the MDM list in the new municipality of Matola-Rio.
For Maputo City, the MDM has bet on Augusto Mbazo, who was the party’s candidate in 2018. The mayoral candidates in other cities are: Matola (Augusto Pelembe), Beira (Albano Carige), Quelimane (Bruno Dramusse) and Nampula (Carlos Chaure). The names of the candidates were announced this Monday (24 July) in Beira.
For these elections, the MDM will count on the support of the Democratic Revolution Party (RD), formed by dissidents from Renamo, led by Vitano Singano; of the Ecologist Party, of João Massango; and of the Party for Peace, Democracy and Development (PDD), of Raul Domingos.
