Hosted by the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho through the Ministry of Natural Resources, this biennial event has brought together senior officials, water practitioners, and stakeholders from across the SADC region to explore this year’s crucial theme: “Water Security, Innovation, and Nexus Action: Watering and Enabling Regional Economic Development Corridors for Transformation in SADC”.
Discussions are diving deep into how the water sector can strategically support regional economic corridors through the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach. The dialogue aims to align water management with key regional strategies like SADC Vision 2050 and the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030, transforming corridors into lifelines of resilience, food security, and climate-smart growth.
Today’s sessions include:
• An opening ceremony with remarks from the SADC Secretariat, GWPSA, the German Embassy, the EU Delegation, and a keynote address by the Honourable Mohlomi Moleko, Minister of Natural Resources of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
• A presentation of the comprehensive Background Paper, setting the stage for discussions on industrialization, resource management, and regional value chains.
• Panel discussions and parallel sessions on aligning water governance with corridor objectives, with contributions from institutions like AUDA-NEPAD, ORASECOM, ZAMCOM, and the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP).
The event is convened by the SADC Secretariat with foundational support from the German Government through GIZ and technical support from the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA).
