This Thursday's demonstrations were marked by the looting and vandalism of commercial establishments. The vandalism and looting of stores was carried out by supposed protesters but also by agents of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique. Information and videos circulating show police officers looting stores in the city of Maputo. In the “Shoprite” shopping complex, at least two stores were looted this Thursday.
Although images are circulating that show Police agents recovering looted goods from one of the stores in the respective commercial complex, information is also circulating indicating the direct involvement of PRM agents in looting it. In fact, since the demonstrations began, images have always circulated indicating the participation of police officers in looting of commercial establishments. Police leaders never speak out about this and prefer to demonize the protesters and the presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, against whom they have already opened a criminal case.
In his communications, Venâncio Mondlane has appealed to protesters not to carry out acts of vandalism and looting. However, there appear to be groups posing as protesters to carry out vandalism and looting activities. And of course, there are also police officers who take advantage
