Franschhoek, South Africa, 27 March 2026 – The organisers of the Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek sadly advise that, due to sudden illness and a required emergency medical procedure, Salif Keita is unfortunately unable to travel to South Africa and will no longer be performing at this weekend’s festival.
While Mr Keita is unable to join us in person, his band will continue to perform as scheduled on Saturday, honouring the music and repertoire prepared for this performance. The wonderful Aicha Mariko and Fatoumata Soubeiga, who Salif consider his daughters, will sing the tribute to the legend.
We send Mr Keita our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek in the near future.
With a strong and diverse programme of artists across the weekend, we look forward to seeing you in Franschhoek for this inaugural African edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival.
