The Mozambican Network of Human Rights Defenders (RMDDH) demanded the immediate delivery of the work equipment of investigative journalist Estácio Valoi, after the Judicial Court of the City of Pemba ordered his return. At issue are a computer, two mobile phones and a tablet seized at the journalist’s residence on June 16, 2026. According to the court decision, the steps that justified the seizure have already been completed.

The organization considers that the retention of equipment for almost three months directly affected the journalistic work of Valoi, editor of the Moz24h portal.

The RMDDH also requires guarantees on the integrity of equipment, the protection of the confidentiality of sources, professional secrecy and the security of journalistic materials stored in them.
The seizure occurred in the context of a journalistic investigation into alleged environmental crimes and timber trafficking, a story that, according to the organization, is of high public interest.

The RMDDH said it would continue to monitor the case and stressed that a court decision ordering the return of goods must be complied with immediately and effectively. (Moz24h)
