The killing by gunfire of several individuals in the mining area of Marraca, Iuluti community, Mogovolas District, Nampula Province, on 29 December, constitutes a serious incident that raises grave human rights concerns and requires urgent clarification by the Mozambican authorities. However, no context–whether related to illegal mining, public order operations, or security enforcement–can justify the loss of life without due process.
